A Family Connection
Elora Mill
Zach & I initially booked Elora Mill because of it’s amazing natural setting and the hikes that we’d taken in the Elora gorge, but soon found out that there was some family history with the Mill.
Initially built in the 1850s, the Elora Mill was sold in 1944 to Norman Ramsey Drimmie (my Great-Great-Uncle on the Clarke side – my mother’s side), who operated the mill and granary under N.R Drimmie & Sons. It soon became the industrial and commercial heart of the town and the Drimmie family were very involved in the community.
My Grandma Clarke used to spend a month every summer there until she was 12, visiting her Aunt and Uncle at the Mill and swimming in the gorge with her cousin. In 1974 the Mill was sold to Andrew Panchuk and David Silverman who began operating it as an Inn, but you’ll still find the Drimmie name around many places in town!
This shared history with the mill makes our choice of venue even more special!
